PU Manufacturing Engineer

 

General Summary

Develop, improve, and maintain manufacturing processes.  Investigate manufacturing and quality concerns, develop and implement corrective actions, and continuously improve stable processes.  Participate in activities to help Webasto achieve its Business Plan goals.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes workload on the basis of severity and degree of business impact
  • Ensures compliance with TS16949, Customer Specific Requirements, Webasto procedures and other applicable standards
  • Monitors manufacturing process effectiveness
  • Conduct tool/process changes to improve the product quality and operating process efficiency
  • Designs and develops equipment
  • Procures equipment from third parties
  • Develops and maintains Work Instructions, PFMEAs, and other process documentation
  • Monitors effectiveness of error detection and error proofing systems
  • Develops and maintains plant layouts, floor space requirements, and equipment capacity
  • Participates in and leads Continuous Improvement activities
  • Supports line balance studies and participate on improvements
  • Participates in training to increase skills
  • Performs all duties in a professional, ethical, and legal manner
  • Provide daily support and process input to a polyurethane plastics process.
  • Be a technical resource on processing matters for the process technicians and maintenance colleagues

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

                 Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience in related field
  • 3-5 years related experience with polyurethane RIM molding process and equipment preferred
  • 3-5 years experience as an Manufacturing or Process Engineer in a plastics molding process
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Plastics or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Previous exposure to RJG, Paulson, or Scientific molding techniques and methods
  • Ability to troubleshoot the root cause for defects in a plastics molding process
  • Familiarity with testing methods for adhesion and cohesion preferred
  • Ability to evaluate work cells for possible improvements in work flow, job combination, and line balancing to achieve optimum                           performance
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Experience in design and troubleshooting of pneumatic, hydraulic and electro-mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of TS16949 Technical Specification
  • Lean Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • PLC Programming knowledge preferred
  • Computer skills including knowledge of CAD preferred
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment
