We make mobility fun – are you there?

Our “Roof & Components (RC)” business unit develops and produces roof systems for every type of vehicle and autonomous driving. To achieve this, we rely on the most modern technologies and materials. Are you technically skilled and enthusiastic about product innovations? Then use your expertise and passion to help shape our success story.

Do you like to take responsibility with a longterm-view? For the expansion of our production site for automotive glass (roofs, windshields and rear windows) in Grevenmacher (Luxembourg), we are looking for committed colleagues (f/m/d) who will help shape our success story with their expertise and passion.

Position Summary:

At Webasto we produce automotive backlites, roofs and windshields. Those parts have either full surface heating, local heating and/or antennas to be connected to the car wiring, the connection being often soldered to glass. Soldering connectors onto glass requires defined conditions on components’ properties, from glass substrate to connector itself, as well as well-defined process. The soldered joint is reliable when physical/chemical properties of a wide range of items are met, such as but not limited to conductive tracks geometry, structure, and thickness (namely ceramic print & silver tracks), glass stress, thickness, and shape (bending and cooling conditions), connector design and size, soldering material and quantity, flux. The process technology and parameters are a second set of conditions (temperature, uniformity of heat, soldering time). The design of connector is not only impacting solderability, but it also participates to the heat distribution (hot spots) or antenna reliability (stable contacting). The position of Soldering Expert for the manufacturing plant is thus created, to

-  coordinate transversally the fabrication processes leading to adequate glass properties,

-  accord the connector design to glazing requirements at design review stage or upon need,

-  support production to troubleshoot production quality issues related to solders,

-  train teams to soldering requirements,

-  perform continuous improvement of current process and products, enabling fulfilment of further evolution of requirements, equipment, processes, and product, finally capitalizing the soldering know-how.

Your tasks in our Team:

  • Optimize performance of soldered joints (reliability, troubleshooting, productivity) leveraging from substrate, connector, processes, equipment, training of production & process teams
  • Correlation of soldering reliability with glass properties (silver print, black print, stress in glass, design of silver tracks, impact of thickness…), definition of related standards, transversal coordination/counselling with process teams for troubleshooting and definition of requirements
  • With relevant teams, define, install, set-up of new process equipment and train teams to it
  • Propose, develop, and participate in implementing design of silver tracks, of connector, of soldering process for new products according to customer requirements, possibly using simulation tools, mainly through participation at design reviews for new projects, but also as continuous improvement along life cycle of the products
  • Together with Supply Chain, Process and Quality teams, participate in evaluation of (new) connector suppliers, define requirements and validation protocols
  • Propose and/or develop new ideas upon opportunities with/from process, Manufacturing Technologies, Advanced Product Development, and Program Management teams

Your Profile:

  • Successfully completed studies / master’s degree in Engineering, Material Science or Physics
  • First experiences in soldering within a development or production environment, preferably in the Glass or Ceramics industry
  • Self-starter, bias to take ownership of projects assigned
  • A positive can-do attitude
  • Hands on expertise with attention to fine craftsmanship of prototype samples that will be presented to the customer
  • Thinks in terms of customers & end-users
  • Strong project management skill set to lead programs
  • Familiarity with reading & executing test specifications
  • Adept at summarizing data and revealing key trends
  • A creative mind-set, a solution finder
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Detail oriented, able to maintain test logs/results/data
  • Enthusiasm and a high level of initiative
  • Strong analytical and technical thinking skills
  • Affinity for the automotive industry
  • Desire to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment
  • Proficient in the use of common office programs (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Fluent in speaking/writing in French, English – German is a plus
