Supplier Quality Engineer

Position Summary:

 

Assist the quality manager and the purchasing team in solving supplier quality related problems and ensure released processes and procedures are being followed appropriately.

 

The ability to interact with highly confidential information in a professional manner, interact courteously with staff members, suppliers, and management team.  Be proactive, resourceful and efficient; professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role. Written and verbal communication skills, work and attention to details are equally important.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Act as main contact to suppliers for various products and projects related to quality.
  2. Track supplier PPAP’s and APQP.  Review for approval when required.  
  3. Responsible for supplier returns and processing within the material system.
  4. Issue and review supplier 8D corrective action reports.  Verify for effectiveness.
  5. Work with manufacturing team to resolve quality issues related to supplier concerns.
  6. Update and issue supplier scorecards and work with low performing suppliers.    
  7. Perform on-site supplier quality audits and assign action plans as required.
  8. Work with purchasing department to qualify and approve new suppliers.
  9. Ensure supplier quality manual is available and understood by suppliers.
  10. Maintain and update approved supplier list.  
  11.  Participate in engineering change meetings and prototype builds.
  12.  Assist in disposition of warranty and customer returns related to supplier parts.
  13.  Gather data and report on quality department KPI’s related to supplier quality.
  14.  Follow ISO-14001, and IATF-16949 processes, as required.
  15.  Update and maintain Quality Management System processes related to supplier quality.
  16.  Perform work in office and plant environments (constant back and forth).
  17.  Knowledge of customer specific requirements, and risk evaluations as they relate to suppliers.
  18.  Responsibility and right to stop production or shipment if product does not meet quality standards.
  19.  Additional duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience in field.
  2. 3 years supplier quality related experience with an automotive related company.
  3. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  4. Knowledge of core tools:  MSA, SPC, APQP, PPAP, FMEA’s, 8D’s, Problem Solving.
  5. Ability to read and interpret blue prints, computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  6. Ability to work in team oriented environment
  7. Take hands-on approach when required
  8. Experience dealing with car OE’s and aftermarket customers
  9. Knowledge of IATF-16949,  and ISO-14001
  10. Able to travel up to 20% in US and Canada

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.   Basic communication skills such as talking, seeing, and hearing are needed for frequent person-to-person contacts, and telephone usage.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to normal in-office weather conditions/environment.  The nature of the work has frequent interruptions; contact with the vendors and employees and requires communication skills coupled with constant exposure to confidential information.  All safety rules must be followed while in the facility or while visiting outside customers/vendors.  Proper PPE must be used for all situations.   May be required to work beyond normal working hours.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
