Key Account Manager - Batteries

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Key Account Manager - Batteries position is responsible for new business acquisition as well as complete account management of WTNA’s battery customers as a key member of a significant growing market segment.  The position will be working internally within the customized solutions business team in Fenton Michigan and collaboratively with Webasto’s colleagues located in Germany and other global locations.

 

The ideal candidate will be highly skilled and motivated to satisfy customers, obtain new programs and sales, and significantly grow market share. Must be a self-starter, strategically minded and have demonstrated experience and success in growing a portfolio of business. Engineering / technical background and/or supervision experience is a plus to fulfill current and future career opportunities. Experience with high voltage products and systems (powertrains) a plus. Candidate should have functional knowledge of vehicle systems and components.

 

This person must be well organized, flexible and skillful to enjoy the challenges of winning new business programs. Working with a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role. Excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with a strong sense for customer obsession/satisfaction and consultative selling are also essential. Must prioritize workload and pay attention to detail. This position will need to interact professionally with customers, with fellow team members, and should be a natural at being a positive and polished representative of the company.  

 

A 4-Year University degree plus a minimum of five years of OE Account Management (or equivalent) experience is required. Candidate must demonstrate skills with regard to the introduction and selling of high-technology products, target market and competitive analysis, negotiation skills, conflict resolution, long term business planning, use of customer supplier portals, project planning, management, strong customer relations, and strong team building skills. Candidate to excel in presentation and communication skills, and interact professionally with customers and staff members.  Proven ability to overcome objections and communicate the value-added benefits of product solutions. Candidate expected to maintain and grow relationships with multiple departments within customer (Engineering, Purchasing, Marketing, Manufacturing, Sales). Position based at North American Headquarters, Fenton Michigan.

 

Valid passport for International Travel required.

 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Face to the Customer - Become the lead sales representative of Webasto Thermo & Comfort to OEM customers/prospects and their key management personnel including specific emphasis on Engineering, Purchasing, Development & Testing, Product Planning/Strategy, Manufacturing, Warranty and Supplier Quality Assurance.  
  2. Values and Principles - Must follow the ONE Webasto Values and Principles as an overall approach to the job.
  3. Account Management - Responsible for the complete management of the assigned OEM accounts.  This may include but is not limited to formal quotation submissions, securing purchase orders, closing open financial issues, price and warranty negotiation, expanding OEM applications and overall new business acquisition and growth.
  4. Consultative Selling and Relationship Building - Responsible to establish and build relationships with both decision makers and influencers at all levels. Consultative selling approach necessary to seek new growth opportunities.
  5. Voice-of-the-Customer - Maintain a reliable understanding of how Webasto’s OEM customers view the company and bring those key messages back to the Webasto team for continuous improvement when needed.
  6. Customer Satisfaction – Ensure Webasto meets all customer requirements and expectations in a prompt, professional, and ethical manner.
  7. Computer Skills – Must be proficient in Microsoft Office; especially Outlook, PowerPoint (use of templates, embedded videos, animations, etc.), Word, and Excel (creation of basic formulas, charts, etc.). Experience with CRM systems a plus.
  8. Supplier Portals - Responsible for consistent and complete oversight of customer’s supplier portals, including accessing purchase orders, terms and conditions, assessing the status of WTNA’s supplier scorecard and coordination of internal resources leading to marked improvements in results.
  9. Travel – Primarily focused on outside sales. Requires consistent travel to customer headquarters, R&D centers and assembly plants. Requires attendance and support at major industry trade shows and events. Other domestic/international travel requirements vary and are based on customer need.  Occasional international travel will be required. Customer entertainment per Webasto Code of Conduct and Compliance policies are necessary.
  10. Organized - Responsible for managing and proper filing of all customer commercial documents within the global shared folder structures.
  11. Strategy – In collaboration with the Director CSB as well as the Webasto HQ in Gilching, Germany; develop and support any strategic approaches necessary for the increase of product sales penetration of Webasto products in North America.
  12. Team Environment and Collaboration- Works closely with:
    1. Webasto Germany to establish commercial pricing and availability of the core product line, as well as mutual marketing and customer events.
    2. WTNA’s R&D team to establish new product applications and drive successful launch of new programs.
    3. WTNA’s Operations (primarily Manufacturing and Quality) teams that support new program launches.
  13. Technical Background - Has a proven and demonstrated ability to understand and sell highly technical products to OEM customers.  Engineering or technical selling background considered a major plus.
  14. Demonstrate knowledge of, and supports, Company Mission, vision, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
  15. Follow ISO9001 and ISO 14001 processes. TS 16949 and others as required.
  16. Additional duties as assigned.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds in order to move, lift and carry tools, products and materials.  

 

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.   Basic communication skills such as talking, seeing, and hearing are needed for frequent person-to-person contacts, and telephone usage.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions as stated above.  The nature of the work has frequent interruptions; contact with the public and clients requires strong communication skills.  May be required to work beyond normal working hours and job will require occasional domestic and international travel as driven by customer demand and/or necessity to secure new business (valid Passport required).

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but could be extensive based on customer location.
