Application Engineer HVAC and EV Thermal Systems

System Engineer Thermal Systems

Position Summary:

Development and design thermal systems for vehicles. This includes heating and cooling passenger compartments, batteries and power electronics. Focus is busses, heavy and medium duty trucks, off highway machines and military vehicles.

The systems will be based on standard components, developed by Webasto’s HQ.

Tasks include: Understand, define and summarize customer requirements. Calculate and simulate potential solutions. Develop generic and customer specific application solutions. Install complete systems at Webasto and at customer site. System testing. Documentation of system (Drawings, BOMs, schematics, reports etc.)

Responsible for Webasto’s standard HVAC and Thermal System components in NA.

Support projects to localize production.

Responsibility could be increased to perform similar duties in other product areas.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Interact with customers by developing application solutions for specific vehicles.

 

Interact extensively with Webasto HQ in Italy and Germany and a global supplier base to provide thermal application solutions. 

 

Work with customers to assess their application design requirements.  Define the specifications, products and accessories to fulfill the agreed requirements.

 

Based on agreed customer requirements, develop the scope of application delivery.

 

Prepare all documentation necessary for production as well as customer support. (Drawings, BOM, schematics, installation instructions etc.)

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • BSME, Mechanical Engineering or BSEE Electrical Engineer

Major: Control Engineering, Refrigeration Engineering, Thermodynamics, Bus communication systems (CAN-, LIN-Bus)

  • Familiarity with HVAC and EV thermal management systems
  • Familiarity with controlling thermal needs in electric vehicles
  • MS Office  (Word, Excel, Project, Power Point)
  • 5 years’ experience in Applications Engineer, heating, cooling and thermal management or similar.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD systems (Catia or similar)

Knowledge and proficiency of:

 

  • Engineering and design of vehicle HVAC systems and components.
  • Working knowledge of heating and cooling components and systems.
  • Working knowledge of electronic controls and operating systems.
  • Customer Interface; 
  • Capable of direct customer interface and support to specify heating and cooling systems and components with rudimentary inputs from the customer.
  • Prototype installation
  • Follow ISO14001/9001, IATF/TS16949 processes, as required.
