Webasto Roof Systems Inc. is currently recruiting for a Manufacturing Tooling Engineer located at their HQ in Auburn Hills, MI.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop protype and production tooling specifications to support designing the manufacturing and assembly tooling for new projects
  • Develop innovative tooling solutions for roof assembly process using proven bonding, RIM encapsulation, thermoforming, press-forming, and fastening techniques,
  • Provide technical evaluation of customer requirements as it pertains to manufacturing and assembly tooling to ensure optimum costing and coordination of tasks that meet customer requirements, while achieving Webasto manufacturing cost, quality, and productivity goals
  • Ensure compliance to Webasto standard and tooling requirements for pre-assembly, assembly, EOL inspection and testing systems during the equipment build phase and pre-acceptance at the equipment supplier’s facility
  • Support tooling setup and changeover activities during the equipment installation, final debug, and commissioning
  • Assist AME team on 2D/3D product design review and advise on tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T requirements throughout product lifecycle management process
  • Support AME team in DFMEA review, PFMEA review, and other risk management events
  • Provide technical evaluation of tooling design during the equipment design review phase


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of design and /or manufacturing experience of bonding, molding, assembly tooling, and fixturing (ideally for automotive applications)
  • Proficient in 3D CAD - CATIA V5, mold flow analysis is a plus– (AutoCAD or Mouldex)
  • Ability to perform tolerance stack-up analysis and full understanding of GD&T
  • Good reasoning, problem solving and project management capability with excellent attention to detail
  • APQP experience
  • 15%-25% travel
