Webasto is seeking highly motivated candidates that have experience ensuring excellent technical performance and optimum availability of production equipment to join our team as a Lead Engineer Development (full-time) at our facility in Auburn Hills, MI. 10% domestic travel required to Webasto assembly plants and supplier reviews; Less than 5% international travel required; Telecommuting permissible; Hybrid - 3 days in office, 2 days remote.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical direction to customer focused teams of designers and engineers relative to new products and customer programs.
- Develop robust technical solutions from concept through production.
- Perform engineering analysis and data management for different properties related to industry manufacturing processes, for example Castings, injection molding etc.
- Work with designers to develop high quality drawings.
- Perform tolerance stack-ups on new design and product changes.
- Set direction with suppliers and tool-room to build prototypes and establish production feasibility of designs working with suppliers, engineers, and plant colleagues.
- Maintain open issues list during development.
- Communicate with other engineers to help develop product strategy for standardization.
- Prepare engineering documentation including but not limited to DFEMA, DVP&R, drawings and design assumptions and formally release all product requirements into the Webasto systems.
- Ensure that all product requirements are accurately released on time into change management system in order to support all program objectives and customer requirements.
- Act as liaison with customers, suppliers and engineers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- U.S. Bachelor’s Degree (or foreign equivalent) in in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Industrial Engineering
- Three (3) years’ of experience as a Product Engineer, Design Engineer or in a closely related position in the automotive industry performing product engineering on mechanical products.
- Three (3) years of experience with all of the following:
- Understanding and applying customer specifications, standards and competitive technical solutions utilizing 8D(Eight Disciplines problem solving process), CAD(Computer Aided Design), DOE(Design of Experiments), GD&T(Geometric dimensioning and Tolerancing), DFMEA (Design Failure mode effective analysis), ECM(Engineering change management), and Robust Design;
- Working with test lab and proto shops for concept prototype building and concept validation; and
- Performing engineering analysis and data management for different properties related to industry manufacturing processes such as castings and plastics.
